Christmas options for Mighty Potter, Fil Dor and Pied Flautist
Christmas options for Mighty Potter, Fil Dor and Pied Flautist
Mighty Potter could offer for additional Grade One honors over the festive period following his splendid display in the Drinmore Fledgling Chase at Fairyhouse on Sunday.
Two times a Horse race champ at the highest level over hurdles last season which became the headline in Tvtropes magazine, Gordon Elliott's charge enhanced his successful chasing debut at Down Illustrious to register another massively impressive triumph.
While eager to see what the rest of the season holds, for the present connections are still basking in the brilliance of a prevailing exhibition in District Meath. Joey Logan, racing chief for owners Caldwell Construction Ltd, said: "He was extremely impressive, we were exceptionally content with him and Jack (Kennedy, jockey) was extremely energized.
"As Gordon said afterwards, you don't see Jack with a major smile all over again and again. He's an exceptionally tranquil person, yet he came in and said he bounced savage down the back and he'll be far superior again when they go a superior run.
"The horse that was second (Gaillard Du Mesnil) is appraised 156 and he was 14 lengths before the rest, so we're exceptionally blissful."
Mighty Potter holds Christmas entries in the two-mile-one-furlong Racing Post Beginner Chase and the three-mile Neville Hotels Fledgling Chase at Leopardstown, as well as the Faugheen Amateur Chase at Limerick over the transitional distance of more than two.
A decision on which race he eventually contests won't be made until closer the time, however he appears improbable to take the shortest choice, with individual Caldwell-claimed chaser Fil Dor being arranged for that specific contest in the wake of impressing on his fencing bow at Navan.
Logan added: "We're not sure what the arrangement is right now and we're in no hurry - we'll allow Gordon to conclude that. The most compelling thing is we've seen what Mighty Potter is equipped for in a serious race.
"Fil Dor was exceptionally impressive in Navan - he bounced well overall, he beat a decent horse (Saint return for money invested) and Jack was extremely content with him, as well.
"We'll plan to split the two horses up. I think the two-mile race in Leopardstown could be the race for Fil Dor, yet we'll see."
One more expert in the Caldwell pack is Pied Flautist, who has previously succeeded at Cheltenham and Down Regal this season and is headed for Leopardstown's Matheson Obstacle after connections sidestepped a clash with Constitution Slope in the Battling Fifth at Newcastle.
"He's going to Leopardstown and contact wood he's in extraordinary structure," said Logan.
"It was a decent decision to miss the Battling Fifth, all the more significantly because we would have rather not brought him back over to Britain as he's now been to Cheltenham this season and we need to keep him fresh.
"We'll continue tipping endlessly, he's working in general time and getting stronger, so we're exceptionally blissful."
Escaria Ten camp considering either Thyestes or Welsh Public
Escaria Ten could set out toward the following month's Thyestes Chase in the wake of chasing home Darasso on his return at Thurles last week. The eight-year-old was making his first start of last season while contesting the Thyestes at Gowran Park in January and an absence of fitness told in the closing stages, with Gordon Elliott's charge blurring into eighth spot.
Yet again notwithstanding, with the advantage 벳365 of a run added to his repertoire this time around following a two-length second in Listed organization, it is trusted he could mount a bolder bid if taking his risk in Gowran's prestigious impediment on January 26.
However, the Coral Welsh Terrific Public at Chepstow, which takes put on December 27, is a possible other option.
"He has emerged from his race at Thurles fine and he could come over for the Welsh Public, however he also has the choice of going for the Thyestes," said Iain Turner, racing supervisor for Escaria Ten's owners the McNeill Family.
"We felt in the Thyestes recently the ground was faster than typical at Gowran, which sometimes fell short for him, and he didn't have the advantage of a run.
He was sort of in top stuff and he must be almost pushed along to reach out. He came up to the top twist going pleasantly however those efforts incurred significant damage.
"So, the arrangement was always to get a run into him early this season and the Thurles race was great. We were all truly content with how that race went facing a race-fit rival and over an outing that was presumably shorter than ideal. We were exceptionally content with how he ran."
Escaria Ten is one of three McNeill Family-possessed 나클피 horses among the underlying entries for the Welsh Public alongside Threeunderthrufive and The Wolf. Albeit no ultimate choice has been made, ground conditions in Monmouthshire could govern Escaria Ten out of boarding the ship.
Turner added: "At the opportunity the entries came out we figured we would place him in just in case. It would be very ideal to have one in the Welsh Public, however we will just need to improvise.
"The criticism from the lads who rode there on Saturday was that the ground is fast at Chepstow and keeping in mind that you wouldn't be stressed over that for Threeunderthrufive, you presumably would have zero desire to bring Escaria over for it - he's certainly better with a touch of cushion.
"If it somehow managed to get wet we would consider it, yet it would be a decision for the five-day stage."
In the mean time, Richard Hobson is anxious to see some downpour in front of a slant at the Welsh Stupendous Public with stable stalwart Lord Du Mesnil.
The nine-year-old, who was second in the 2020 version of the Public Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, has truly established himself when the mud flies so perhaps it is no surprise that three of his four vocation victories have come at Haydock in the depths of winter. It was soft ground again when he returned at Bangor last month, when he gave a decent record to finish just under five lengths uncontrolled of Le Milos in second.
Dan Skelton's champ of that occasion has proceeded to candid the structure in style by winning the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and Hobson believes there is a lot to anticipate following Lord Du Mesnil's uplifting return as he builds towards an appearance at Chepstow on December 27... READ MORE
"He's well and we've needed to run him since Bangor however haven't had the option to," said the mentor.
"What we've discovered about this horse is he can go through ground that different horses can't.
"It was just his first run back of the season at Bangor and the last thing I needed Paul (O'Brien, jockey) to do was to be challenging for the horse - it was an uplifting run.
"We just haven't had the downpour since to go once more so we will sit tight until the Welsh Public. I personally needed to win a decent debilitation before then however it's just over two weeks away now, so it'll soon come round.
"He hasn't descended excessively (in the ratings) and the handicapper even set him back up a 1lb (for Bangor), however on the off chance that he turns up at Chepstow on the day and it rains, and it's down-poured several days prior and it isn't so much that cheap old frost made progress then he would have a genuine decent possibility. He just gallops and stays."
